Quercus rubra ’Greg’s Variegated’ is a rare variegated selection by plantsman Greg Williams and unofficially named by Talon Buchholz. The variegated red oak is an oak that is for oak collectors, but also anyone who loves variegation.  I expect ‘Greg’s Variegated’ to have the typical upright form of Quercus rubra teaching growth rates of 12-18 inches in a year. In 15 years ‘Greg’s Variegated’ may reach 20-24 ft in height.

Don't Judge a Book by its Cover

I bought this tree last winter in a one-gallon container, it looked like a stick with no leaves or branches. Well, that was then, it’s now July and the tree has nearly doubled in size with a straight trunk, good branching and incredible variegated foliage. I have the tree in morning sun and afternoon shade so I’m not sure how the variegation will hold up in full sun. So far, I’m very pleased, can’t wait to see the fall color.
